Ethics

Democrats don't live up to promised ethics reform - fail to include key measures they supported as they took back the House last fall.

First, I'd say it's kind of dumb to impose a bunch of new rules on Members of Congress when the old rules were violated. If you can't enforce one set of rules, what makes you think new rules will help? The fact is, if a corrupt person wants to break the rules, they will, no matter what they are. But, it's a liberal, knee jerk reaction. (And in this case, a failure to follow through on a promise.)

Second, what authority do the Democrats have to speak on this issue when one of their own was caught with $90,000 in bribe money in his freezer? And when the Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, who has donated to Nancy Boyda's campaign, has hired as a Chief of Staff, a lobbyist who made a $25,000 below interest loan to Democrat Rep. Jim Moran. In exchange for the $25,000 loan, Moran signed on to legislation benefitting his client, a big drug company.

Boyda should call on Hoyer to terminate his new Chief of Staff immediately or she should return the money Hoyer has donated to her.

Trying to deflect the Renzi, Doolittle, Calvert controversies are we?

Corruption isn't limited to any single party. Republicans and Democrats alike are subject to bad judgment and behavior.

Didn't Jim Ryun get a below market deal on a half million dollar townhouse from a Jack Abramoff phony group (that was actually a front for a Russian oil company)?

Did you ever notice that being a conservative seems to include "room and board"?

* Ryun gets a townhouse from some fake "pro-family" group

* Sam Brownback lives in a mysterious church-like place called "The Fellowship"

* Phill Kline makes his official residence in Johnson County at a pad owned by KFL

How do I enroll in this religious right housing program? Of course, I'm not conservative. But I'm willing convert if somebody will pick up my rent.

Jim Ryun's biggest single donor was a group that develops marketing strategies to help compaies target little kids. Is that ethical?

Who is Ryun's "single biggest donor"?

Ryun bought the house above market value-look back at the tax records from 2000. Nice try, Jenkins crowd.

I got an idea. Ryun should call DeLay and make arrangements for Russian oil company to give a townhouse to Nancy Boyda. If she accepts it, she'll no longer be able to criticize Ryun.

Corruption isn't limited to one party. Let's see to by doing our best to corrupt the D's. We need to bring them down to our level.

I think that Ryun should give up the townhouse and get a room at "The Fellowship" with Brownback.

The Ryuns and the National Prayer Breakfast folks (the Fellowship) don't get along

Point for Ryun.

Ryun bought townhouse from something called US Family Network. The organization was a front group for Jack Abramoff and Tom DeLay. They sold the townhouse to Ryun at $19,000 loss. House was undervalued by $60,000. It was a pure kickback to a conservative congressman.

Ryun should sell the house and donate any profits to charity.

Most congressmen who took Abramoff money turned around and gave the money to charity. They did the same thing with Enron contributions years ago. Ryun should give the townhouse profits to charity.

Ryun no longer lives in DC. He now lives in Lawrence. He moved back to Kansas.

Ryun would have to sell the DC for a profit before he actually realizes a profit. The housing market is greatly depressed right now there according to my sources.

According to a source in DC, the Ryun house was still occupied by the Ryun's last week. Given the house is only a stones throw away from the Capital the house could still sell for over a million dollars.
