NRCC Press Release

The NRCC hits Boyda's budget buster. The Democrats are spending $21 billion more than President Bush proposed. Great job Nancy. Way to get after the deficit without raising taxes!!

NANCY BOYDA'S FISCAL INSANITY
Boyda answers her fiscal critics by signing up her Kansas constituents for one of the largest tax hikes in history

WASHINGTON – In what can only be explained as an exercise in fiscal recklessness, Nancy Boyda voted for a budget that would pave the way for one of the largest tax hikes in American history. Even with the tax increases, the budget that Boyda voted for far exceeds the president’s budget request by $21 billion dollars.

“Votes like these are the hallmark of a tax-and-spend liberal,” said Jessica Boulanger , Communications Director for the NRCC. “Nancy Boyda's support for such disastrous fiscal policies only further proves the point that she is out of step with the values of her district. Raising taxes on the backs of working Americans, and frivolously spending it away, is unacceptable to the taxpayers of America .”

THE FACTS ON THE BOYDA-SUPPORTED BUDGET:

The Democrats' Budget Fails To Extend All Of The 2001 And 2003 Tax Cuts.
"Congressional Democrats... announced agreement on a $2.9 trillion budget blueprint for 2008, promising a budget surplus in five years, but only by allowing some of President Bush's tax cuts to expire." (Andrew Taylor, "Democrats Agree On $2.9 Trillion Budget," The Associated Press , 5/16/07)

The Democrats' Budget Plan Increases Spending By $21 Billion Above The President's Request. "The deal announced Wednesday... would allow $954.1 billion in fiscal 2008 discretionary spending.... That total, which does not include war spending, is $21 billion more than the White House's budget request, and this difference grows to $23 billion when $2 billion in advance appropriations are included." (David Clarke, "Hill Confronts President On Spending," CQ Today, 5/16/07)

A 26-Member Coalition, Including The National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste And Americans For Tax Reform, Sent The Following Letter To Congress Calling For Spending Restraint:
"[T]he Senate and House Budget Resolutions propose to raise taxes; create new 'reserve funds' to raise taxes further; employ budgetary gimmicks they themselves have criticized; and all while ignoring the impending crises in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid." (National Taxpayers Union Website, www.ntu.org, Accessed 5/17/07)

Does Jim Ryun have a record of fiscal sanity? I'd say GOP Congress gave us record pork, record deficits, increased size of gov't, etc. Also, I once heard Ryun say that Iraq would cost $50 billion. So far, it has cost $500 billion ... and its long way from over. That's a slight cost overrun. How can we trust a guy who makes such foolish fiscal decisions? Sure, Ryun hasn't voted to raise taxes ... but he's spending habits will bankrupt our children, our children's children, our grandchildren's children, etc.

How does Jim Ryun propose we pay for the dumb war that he helped start? How can somebody call themselves a "fiscal conservative" when they blow $500 billion on a war that never should have happened? Ryun and NRCC are critical or Boyda for increasing spending $21 billion over budget. Why didn't Ryun say something when President spent $450 billion over budget on Iraq?

Please, folks, a little common sense and factual perspective. First, Ryun did support the war, along with a good many Republicans and Democrats, including Hillary Clinton among others. Second, Ryun had a long history of voting against appropriations that exceeded the budget. This is not a GOP or Jim Ryun war. This is an American war against global terrorism.

no, no..it's a Republican war. I'd love to vote for Ron Paul, had he not gone all extra-nuts during the last debate.

You say that he has a long history of voting against appropriations that exceed budget. That's crap. He voted for a war that exceed budget by $450 billion. And, no it's not "an American war" ... because the majority of Americans oppose the war. This is the Bush/GOP war. They started it. They fabricated the evidence to justify it. They lied about the actual costs. Now, they're doing everything in their power to see that it's prolonged. Jim Ryun actively supported all of this. The war in Iraq is the single dumbest policy decision in US history. Hillary Clinton is just as guilty as Jim Ryun.

Ron Paul is one of the few honest men left in politics.

Ryun was already fired from his position. In part, he was thrown out because of war in Iraq. Why doesn't Ryun just come clean and admit that the war was a mistake? I get the impression that Ryun is so stubborn that he'd rather prolong an unjust war than admit that he made a mistake.

If Ryun doesn't admit that he made a mistake on war in Iraq, then we should assume that he knowingly pushed $50 billion budget and lied to people about what the war really costs. And, then we should assume that he knew the intel justifying war was fabricated.

Why didn't Ryun check out the President's bogus intel reports about Iraq?

If he just votes to start a war without even checking to confirm the facts then he doesn't belong in office.

Was Ryun even paying attention during build up to Iraq? Why didn't he do something?

Did Jim Ryun follow GOP leadership because they gave him a townhouse? Or, did they give Jim Ryun a townhouse because he followed GOP leadership.

Why didn't Hillary Clinton or any number of Democrats check out the intelligence or review the situation prior to authorizing military action or providing war funding. Using one writer's logic, they don't belong in office either. Were they paying any attention??

Okay. Dump Hillary and all those other Democrats as well.

I don't propose a double-standard. Democrats are equally to blame. (However, Nancy Boyda has proven to be right on issue).

I'm just saying that we invaded an entire country based on a lie. It's cost 600,000 lives and $500 billion dollars. It's destroyed our credibility abroad, emboldened the terrorist, and destabilized the entire mideast. And, it's going to get much worse before it's over.

This is the single biggest political mistake in US history.

Ryun deserved to be thrown out of office. Roberts deserves to be thrown out of office (more so). Hillary deserves to be thrown out of office.

The incompetence of Congress and administration is criminal. Nobody - including Jim Ryun - was doing their job. Ryun was on Armed Services Committee. He was charged with making sure this country is safe. He was charged with protecting our men in uniform. He completely failed. We aren't safe and we have wasted young lives.

This isn't about partisanship. It's about leadership and competence. Ryun took us into a BS war, lost the war and now doesn't have a clue how to clean things up. For the next two generations, we'll be paying for his mistakes.

The intelligence services of every major country in the world felt Saddam possessed WMD's. Every Member of Congress- Democrat or Republican- had a chance to review the security briefings. WMD's were never found but that doesn't mean they didn't exist. WMD's can be stored in nothing bigger than a pickup truck bed. They are easily portable. Ryun can be faulted, but so too can every other Member of Congress.

Nancy Boy-duh is nothing more than a shill for Nancy Pelosi. She has proven to be incompetent and a rubberstamp for the liberal Pelosi regime.

A member of Kathleen Sebelius' staff told me that Nancy Boyda is nothing more than an empty suit. Incapable of making her own decisions. She has to have other Members of Congress draft legislation that she can then introduce.

The WMD argument is ridiculous because he now know that GOP fabricated the evidence. Even if they didn't, are we supposed to feel better that the WMDs are now in a "pickup truck bed" somewhere? The country is being run be terrorists and thugs. So, we spent $500 billion to take WMD away from Saddam and give them directly to Al-Quada? That makes no sense. If Ryun continues to make argument that WMDs exist, then we must assume that the military adventure was a failure because we never secured what we went to confiscate.

What type of planning is that? Ryun said we'd have a $50 billion dollar war. We ended up with a $500 billion war that either (1) was based on a lie b/c no WMD ever existed, or (2) was a failure b/c if WMD did exist, they're now in hands of terrorist.

After the GOP generally dropped the WMD argument, they shifted the justification for war by saying that we invaded Iraq to bring democracy. Of course, that failed as well.

No matter how you look at it, Iraq was a horrible horrible decision. It's indefensible. I challenge anybody to show how this was good for America. And, Ryun was on Armed Services Committee. He was civilian oversight of military. His job was to guarantee that things like Iraq don't happen. He failed. (Don't get me started on Pat Roberts).

Sure, Boyda is stupid. Sure, Democrats like Hillary are equally to blame. But that doesn't excuse Ryun's incompetence.

Ryun shares the blame along with the Bush Administration and the entire Congress. No denying that.

Anonymous said...

Ryun shares blame. I don't think he's as guilty as earlier post. But he is to blame. In putting together new campaign, he needs to put Iraq issue behind him. He should admit that mistakes were made and present a new plan. It doesn't do much good to focus on the past. The issue isn't who to blame but who has best plan for future.

Anonymous said...

Everybody thought that Saddam had WMD. You cannot blame Ryun for the way things unfolded. But he should been able to get an estimate of what the war would cost. It was very irresponsible to low ball the estimates of cost of war. It's hard to say you're a conservative when you engage in such reckless spending.

This is bounce boyda, not bounce ryun

Seriously, Jenkins supporters, lay off. You're killing your case. Save the beating up for Nancy, not Jim (or Lynn). Your appearing way too childish for neutral observers such as myself.

Ryun shares blame for Iraq. We're all just hoping that things in Iraq change in near future. In 2020 hindsight, it's easy to say that Iraq was mistake. However, Ryun did what he thought was right at time. He was wrong, but we can't do anything about that now. All we can do I try to work through the situation. Leaving isn't a good option. Democrats can't do much more than blame Republicans for starting the war. Somebody needs to come up with a plan to finish what we started.

Why do we care what NRCC thinks? The NRCC complaint about "disastrous fiscal policies" is ridiculous. The Republican Congress and Bush administration have had most disastrous fiscal policies in US history.
