On Friday, Jim Ryun spoke to the Wichita Pachyderm Club (Wichita Eagle) and the story's lead is worth noting:
"Former U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun said Friday that he would support whoever won the 2nd Congressional District Republican primary in 2008, but the party must take the seat back."
Ryun is to be commended for publicly stating he would support Jenkins, or another candidate, should one emerge, should they win the primary. I assume Jenkins will make the same committment. This is the type of goodwill we should encourage in this Primary battle.
Dedicated to the proposition that Nancy Boyda is a one termer.

The Ryun/Jenkins race is a toss up for me personally. I hope goodwill continues. If either gets nasty or surly with the other, I will financially and with my vote support the most upright candidate.
I don't think either of these two is likely to personally tear down the other, but look for outside groups to do the dirty work.
They both better run a squeaky clean campaign.
I heard the Jenkins camp is running an aggressive whisper campaign against Ryun. That's too bad.
Both sides are letting the PAC's do their dirty work.
Jenkins has the Main Streeters and Ryun has the Club for Growth folks.
And eventually, the candidates have address why they're more qualified to seek the nomination than the other.
Ryun will KILL lynn for being pro-choice...that'll be a huge fight for the next several months
I don't think Ryun has to make that an issue, and he shouldn't . . . but I'd say the KRA and KFL will take care of that.
I'll bet the Jenkins crowd tries to paint Ryun as a far-right, way too conservative kind of guy. And they'll dust off the DCCC's talking points from 2006 and use those too. Wait, they've already done all this.
Jenkins won't have to do much dirty work, it's pretty much already out there. Ryun biggest issue will be what his record is over 10 years in Congress, which is basically not much. Ryun will not play nice, he has too much riding on this election. One thing to note is that the harder Ryun runs on abortion the more likely Boyda will defeat Ryun in November.
Ryun running hard on abortion is simply another rumor being spread by the Jenkins camp to make him look like a one issue whacko.
It doesn't make sense. Ryun is already known as strongly pro-life. Jenkins couldn't possibly get the pro-life crowd to vote for her even if she made the biggest flip-flop ever on the issue.
That's all Jenkins has. Ryun wasn't a camera hound like Boyda, but he got plenty done in 10 years - take the BRAC victory for example. Ryun marched Armed Services Chairmen as well as Army and Pentagon brass through Fort Riley and Forbes Field for the years preceeding the BRAC to highlight their strengths. There are plenty of things Ryun can point to that will destroy the "he didn't do anything" message.
Jenkins better raise a ton of money this first quarter to make herself viable.
So if Ryun was so great why did he lose? What did your poll results show from last week?
Who do you think you are talking to about polling? If you think I'm part of the Ryun campaign or something, you are sadly mistaken.
Ryun lost because: 1. the war created the environment and 2. Ryun's one poor answer to the foley question created a cloud of doubt about scandal.
Everything else is just assigning blame.
Ryun has the best answer for why he lost when he says.
"I'm going to be reintroducing myself and showing people that I am a Kansan at heart."
After 10 years in Congress he shouldn't have to "reintroduce" himself to the people of Kansas.
When was the last time he spoke to the Wichita Pacyderm club?
I heard the Jenkins camp is running an aggressive whisper campaign against Ryun. That's too bad.
Unless this comment is itself a part of an aggressive whisper campaign by the Jenkins camp to discredit Ryun. Or it could be a decoy by the Ryun camp to discredit Jenkins by suggesting that Jenkins is trying to discredit Ryun.
But that's the risk you take with anonymous posters. Jeez.
great post . . . yeah, and maybe you're an anonymous plant for the campaign of the confused.
Why do we need to go after Boyda? We'll lose the whole Second Congressional district in another term because of redistricting. Regardless of whether we elect Ryun or Jenkins, they'll have to face off Moran in an incumbant-on-incumbant race. Doesn't it make more sense to save resources and just eliminate Boyda via redistricting?
Such blind partisanship is the reason why Ryun was fired last November ...
... sure Ryun will support ANYBODY with GOP label ...
... just like he blindly followed indicted GOP leader DeLay ...
... just like he blindly followed Bush into a war based on a lie ...
... just like he blindly worked with neighbor/colleague GOP congressperson Mark Foley ...
We don't need member of Congress who support party over principle. We need people who will dismantle the corrupt party system that has spoiled politics.
David Duke was GOP nominee on several occassions. Would Jim Ryun support David Duke?
I have a hard time understanding the comparison between Lynn Jenkins and David Duke. Duke was Imperial Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan. Are you suggesting the Lynn Jenkins was also in KKK? I don't think so. Of course, the comparison would hold if you were talking about Kansan Kris Kobach.
I don't think Jenkins would look good in white.
