Dole-Gate?

In what looks like an attempt to catch Jim Ryun in a lie, the Jenkins campaign called Bob Dole to see if he endorsed Jim Ryun. Apparently Ryun told the 2nd District convention that Dole called him and encouraged him to run again. Turns out it's true, according to Dole. Dole did point out that once Jenkins got in the race, he declined to endorse either.

Not sure how this plays for either. Bet the Jenkins folks were licking their chops (and who can blame them) at the press release, "Ryun Lies."

The fact that Dole would call Ryun in the first place shows he thinks highly of Ryun. The fact that Dole wouldn't endorse, speaks highly of Jenkins.

As for the convention generally, no news to report. Jenkins takes veiled shots at Ryun. Ryun says he delivered for the district and shares their values . . . same song . . . we've got another 11 months of this . . .

I don't know what Ryun said, but Martin Hawver reported that Jim Ryun said he was endorsed by Bob Dole, so he must have said something along those lines. That's probably what Jenkins was trying to stop from becoming the perceived reality, and for good reason.

Jim Ryun is a liar. This is par for the course.

Also, absolutely, Ryun said Dole endorsed him. This is just him backing up now.

And he has this awful blog to help him. Stop pretending and tell us all you're endorsing Ryun. We'll respect that

since when is having Dole's endorsement a big deal?

The Journal World article says Ryun said Dole called him and asked him to run. As much as I don't like the JW, they have more credibility then Hawver when it comes to getting quotes right.

I'm a conservative backing Jenkins, but I don't think this blog is endorsing anyone. Clearly, Bounce Boyda isn't going to stand for attacks from the candidates against each other. As for this post, I'm not sure where the bias is. Good for Jenkins people for trying to catch Ryun in a lie, it doesn't sound like they did.

Ryun DID say Dole endorsed him, i heard him say it.

Ah no, Ryun didn't say Dole endorsed him. I have the video/audio and he only said Dole asked him to run again. Good try mudslinger.

Why would Ryun say anything about Dole unless he intended the audience to think Dole endorsed him. Come on, it doesn't really matter what he said, it was his intent that matters and his intent was to drop Dole's name. Don't forget this was 9 months ago and the day after the election.

And the problem with Ryun saying Dole called him and said he should run again is . . . .? I just think the Jenkins' camp was hoping for a bad story and all they got was the LJW saying Ryun said Dole called him, Dole saying, "Yes, I did call him and tell him to run again." End of story.
I hear Jenkins did herself no favors at the mini-convention. Rubbed quite a few people the wrong way with her comments.

Disagree. Many conservatives have told Jenkins she said exactly what she needed to say. People that didn't like it weren't going to vote for her anyway. Your trying to justify the Dole/Ryun comments is disgusting. he dropped Doles' name to a friendly crowd, Hawver called it an endorsement, what was Jenkins supposed to do, let it slide. Hope you aren't running a campaign any where.

Ryun said to me and one of my county commissioners directly to us that Dole endorsed him clear as day. he's going to have a hard time getting yard signs up in this county, let me tell you.

I doubt that.

Why is there such animosity between the Ryun supporters and the Jenkins supporters??? Let's save the hatred for Boyda. The more bickering between Ryun/Jenkins, the more it helps Boyda. Our number #1 goal is to BOUNCE BOYDA!!!

Anonymous said...

The only one that can do that is Jenkins, but the Ryun's ego is getting in the way of bouncing boyda. Remember he lost to Boyda once already.

Anonymous said...

He also beat Boyda once already. Not to say he's the best candidate to do it this time. Maybe Jenkins would be better, but this isn't unheard of.

Look to Indiana, in a similar district. Democrat Congressman Baron Hill beat Mike Sodrel in 2002, lost to Mike Sodrel in 2004 and beat him again in 2006. This isn't unprecedented.

That said, let's tone it down between Jenkins and Ryun. It makes people forget what a disaster Boyda is and whoever wins this primary deserves our support next November.

Rematches like this are successful 2.5% of the time. Do the research. Not very good odds, but hey God can deliver miracles, so keep the faith.

In addition to Baron Hill, there was the Ted Strickland seat in Ohio. He was Congressman, lost in the Republican wave of 94 and turned around and won his seat back in 1996.

I've done the research. While rare, the odds are greater in Kansas in a Presidential year when Republican turnout will be at its highest possible.

By the way, I didn't want Ryun to run again. But since he is, I'd say writing him off with no chance would be a mistake.

OK

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Writing him off as having no chance would be a mistake, but suggesting his chances of bouncing Boyda are even 25% as good as Lynn Jenkins' would be an even bigger mistake.

lynn, of course, has a better change to win than Jim does...but Lynn can't win the primary

Anonymous said...

Lynn has chosen some awful endorsements for this early. When you show a lame brain like Audrey Langworthy, like that's a big deal, you aren't serious about winning the 2nd District.

I heard that neither Lynn nor Jim went after Boyda. Until one of them gets down to the real business, I'm not interested in their squabbles.
