At the Risk of Losing Focus

Speaking of SCHIP, did anyone else read this Journal World story on the veto override vote?

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who had wanted Congress to override the veto, said that after speaking last week with top health officials in the Bush administration, there seemed to be no discussion on what to do after the veto override attempt.

“We have no information from the administration on what their negotiating points are,” Sebelius said.

Last time I checked, the President was under no obligation to negotiate with the Governor of Kansas on SCHIP.

Why is Sebelius interjecting herself? Is this a signal she is contemplating running against Pat Roberts for the Senate? If so, I'll say this, Pat would put up quite a bit more of a fight than Tim or the good doctor did. In fact, Kathleen hasn't had a tough race since her first run for Insurance Commissioner.

Sorry to divert attention from the Second District.

Last time I checked the 'p" in SCHIP stands for in State/Federal partnership. The Federal Gov't provides funds to the state gov't.

Guess whose administration administers that money? If you guessed Sebelius you're not as much of an ignorant asshat as your post might lead one to believe.

She's trying to act significant. Watch for lots more of these silly grandstanding displays as she's desperate for national attention.

Not only is she the Governor of a state which receives these funds, but she is the chair of the Democratic Governor's Association, eg she is speaking for multiple state governors.

Also, if you honestly think Sebelius couldn't beat Roberts, you've never looked at an opinion poll. Sebelius routinely polls in the 60s and sometimes even high 60s, while Roberts is generally in the low 50s to high 40s, and his perceived status, deserved or not, as the lapdog of a President with approval ratings in the 30s (for years) wouldn't help.

But anyway, she'd be a FOOL to leave a good job in the middle of her term to run for that seat against an incumbent when she's set up perfectly with an open seat when her term is up in 2010.

Kathy may be a governor and she may be chair of the DGA, but she has NO VOTE when it comes to the reauthorization of this bill.

So should Kathy negotiate with the President on Medicaid . . .and No Child Left Behind . . . and the transportation bill . . . etc, etc, etc . . . the State of Kansas administers most of this money too . . . please don't make a dumb argument and then call people names.

Finally, Kathy has high approval ratings because she hasn't had any tough races and hasn't had to take positions on federal issues. Pat would not let her get away with that.

Isn't the song "Who the f@ck is Alice"?

Anyway, Kathy is what R's call our super duper media whore of a governor. I've known porn stars who want less camera time.

And if you were really paying attention and knew what the hell you were talking about, you'd know that "Kathy" is trying to set herself up for a VP nod or at the very least a cabinet appointment.

How's that for a run on sentence?

Well to the ingnorant asshat at the top ..... the "P" in SCHIP stands for program as in State Children's Health Insurance Program.

The President offered leaders of both parties to discuss this issue and come up with compromise legislation both before they passed it and after the veto of the legislation. So far Democrats have not come to the table. This says to me this legislation was more about political posturing than wanting to get something done.

I think most of what is going on in DC right now with the Dems is political posturing. Why else would Pelosi not name conferees for the 6 approps bills already passed? So she can have an omnibus at the end of the year and tack on a lot more pork? Likely. Talk about a do nothing Congress and Boyda is rank and file going along with it. I haven't checked recently, but is she still at 98% voting with Pelosi still?
