Dedicated to the proposition that Nancy Boyda is a one termer.

"Curiouser and Curiouser"

I noticed the other day that Nancy Boyda voted "Present" on HR 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act. Every other Democrat voted for it as did 74 Republicans.

In my opinion, the only reason to ever vote present in Congress is if you have financial conflict of interest in the legislation. You are sent to Congress to make decisions and no piece of legislation is ever going to be perfect. So, you must weigh whether on balance the legislation is worth voting for or against? Will it make things better or worse?

I mentioned this to someone the other day, and they said they thought Boyda has voted present more than once, possibly four or five times. So I looked, and on the same day, she also voted "Present" on an amendment by the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

I'm still looking at the voting record, but if that's true, that's a weak-kneed representative we have in Washington. I haven't researched it, but I'd be willing to bet Jim Ryun didn't vote present 4-5 times in 10 years, let alone 3 months. You may not have agreed with him, but at least he was a stand up guy.

Here's a message to Nancy Boyda, you were (unfortunately) sent to Washington to vote on our behalf. You were not sent there to simply show up.

Boyda has voted present 4 times already. Ryun never voted present on any bill in his 10 year career (though I am sure there were some during procedural votes when everyone votes present for roll call).

Here is the official explanation of a "present" vote:

Teller vote: The House may hold a teller vote, in which each member signs a green card for "Aye," a red card for "No," and an orange card for "Present" (an abstention), and hands it to a Clerk, who counts the votes.

I would guess Boyda voted present on the rail bill because her husbands law firm has made millions by suing railroads for accidents at rail crossings. No matter that someone tried to run through the crossings, or was drunk, sue the railroad and make millions. Boyda is worth millions and they got some of that by suing business. Another example of how liveral she really is.

Boyda has several "no votes". I need an explanation for this from someone familiar with congressional voting.

Anonymous said...

No Vote means she didn't bother to vote at all.

Anonymous said...

Is a "no vote" common?

Anonymous said...

Most Members of Congress miss 5-10% or so of votes each year for one reason or another (sick, plane is late, etc.).

Anonymous said...

Jerry Moran rarely misses a vote.

thanks, jerry

eh... how many votes has sam brownback missed since he started his run for president?

FAIRNESS!

Anonymous said...

I am a Ryun supporter but there is no excuse and no justification for missing the amount of votes Brownback has in his quest for the presidency.
