Jenkins to Take One on the Chin

Politics is indeed a contact sport. We're about to find out whether Lynn Jenkins has a glass jaw or is ready to go the distance.

Club for Growth is about to spend $75,000 on an add they call "Tax Hiker" (ad below). Specifically, the Club cites votes on gas taxes, property taxes and the sales tax. The votes are documented on the ad.

As a citizen, I think it's too bad that this race is going to be taken over by outside groups. Jim Ryun and Lynn Jenkins seemed to be playing pretty well in the sandbox (for the most part). Anyway, since Jim Ryun won't likely call on these ads to come down and since Club for Growth probably wouldn't listen even if he did, as a political junkie, I do think this race will be more entertaining because of the outside ads (my hunch tells me this is the first of many from both sides).

A note to the Jenkins camp, I will be an equal opportunity poster. If an outside group comes in with an ad hitting Ryun (which there is a good chance will happen), I will put it up if it's available.

I would suggest you take the ad off your site. It is inaccurate and TV stations are pulling. CFG is also taking some heat from some of their larger Kansas donors and Ronald Reagan is turning over in his grave.

TV stations aren't pulling it

why take it down?

I believe voting records are fair game. Boyda is typical of someone who says one thing one day and another on a differnt day. Votes count, words do not. Ryun has a ten year voting record. His are fair game as well. I prefer a a long term voting rating on taxes & spending. Ryun will do well in this reagrd. Jenkins I'm not so sure.

CBS and Fox in Topeka have pulled the false ad and it has been pulled completely out of the Pittsburg market.

The ad was on in Pittsburg this morning.....

Yeah, I am not sure TV stations are going to pull it. Sounds like CFG put some money into the ad buy. If for some reason they have to pull it, I am sure CFG will tweak it and put it right back up. Jenkins has the perfect record for CFG to go after.

WIBW pulled the ad see the link above. (although the story itself is factually challenged) you should look at the Jenkins campaign press release compared to the WIBW story. The Jenkins campaign does not say that Ryun "produced" the ad.

The ad is factually incorrect.

Answer to the glass jaw -- see Jenkins press release. She's got plenty of fight.

Or is it Jeff Wagamon that has the fight?

Jenkins has the fight. She was thinking about getting out, now she's pissed and is going to take down Ryun even if it costs her the election or the state treasurer's election if she even runs again. CFG and Ryun shouldn't have pissed her off. Ask Dennis Wilson if she has the fight. As the Ryun's indicated in an early email the gloves are off, as they said "let the games begin."

didn't Ryun vote for the bridge to no where? Wonder what CFG thinks of that. Also does CFG care about the deficit that has swelled under Ryuns 10 years of distinguished service?

Jim Ryun voted against more than 75% of the spending bills that came before him and he voted for every tax cut. He voted against the massive spending prescription drug bill despite intense pressure from the President to vote the other way. That's leadership on the issues CFG cares about it. I think CFG is just fine with him.

And it shows.
