Are You Kidding Me

In the most favorable light, Nancy Boyda's explanation to the Manhattan Mercury of her snit toward General Keane could be called "a distinction without a difference," or what's known in the world of politics as "spin." And, she's not very good at it.

She said she did not walk out of the meeting itself, but merely ''stepped into a little room'' adjacent to the meeting for five minutes, then returned.

Earth to Nancy, if you left the room, you left the meeting. You said directly into the C-SPAN camera that you had to "leave."

Boyda was in Manhattan talking to officials about growth caused by the return of the Big Red One, somthing she had nothing to do with. If Boyda was truly an independent voice, she'd give credit to Jim Ryun for the work he did to help bring the Big Red One back. I'm sure you don't have to read the article to know that she didn't.

she might have...and they didn't report it...that's a possibility, too.

but, no, i'm sure she didn't. Jim Ryun didn't have everything to do with it, either, so maybe she should investigate in all the people involved and make sure someone write a story thanking them. none of that, including finding a report who would care to cover it, will happen.

when you say someone "walked out" of a something, you imply they had a huge hissy with yelling and scene-making....which isn't what happened. she's correct to draw the distinction, and you're useless for ignoring it.

Actually, Jim Ryun had a lot to do with it. He secured millions of dollars of infrastructure funding for the post, brought Chairman of the Armed Services Committee and high ranking brass from the Pentagon out to Fort Riley to tout it's strengths. And, he lobbied the Pentagon on its behalf. Then again, you don't know what you're talking about.

Boyda said she left the room because she was angry and insulted by what the general had to say. There is no distinction. She's a member of Congress, if she can't sit in her seat and listen like a big girl to someone who she disagrees with, then she doesn't belong there, plain and simple.

Love him or hate him, Jim Ryun should get the credit for bringing the Big Red One back to Fort Riley. He and his staff worked hard on that one.
I think a lot of people are waking up to the fact that Boyda is an ego maniac with no class.

but there is a huge distinction....feed on whatever spin you want to, people, but don't just decide boyda's always in the wrong because you hate her...that doesn't make any sense.

this is pretty simple. Listen for yourself. http://hascaudio.house.gov/FC072707.wma

Boyda mischaracterizes Keane's testimony -- the "vacation" allusion.

Boyda implies that the General is avoiding questioning. Listen to the first minute of the hearing. Chairman Skelton specifically alerts everyone to the fact that Gen. Keane will leave two hours in. There also is discussion about how hastily (relatively speaking, Washington DC timeframe) this hearing was called. This on top of the fact that Boyda walked out! How is she going to question him if she's not there?

Boyda herself says (at 2:05 of the hearing transcript) she left because there is "only so much that you could take until we in fact had to leave the room for awhile".

Later her spokesperson said she walked out, because she needed to "compose" herself.

people are creating something here that isn't...what is different from what Boyda said when she came back to the meeting and what her COS said in the release? She had to leave the room to compose herself.

"Walk out" has a negative conotation- it means "jumped up and made a scene leaving" which isn't what happened. she, i'm sure, left without interupting Keane in the slightest. it was only after she came back that she did anything at all.

why beat a dead horse

you're splitting hairs.

Not to mention, if you've ever seen Nancy Boyda in action, I'd bet a year's salary she was rolling her eyes and making faces. She has no poker face. Maybe she didn't act like a 2 year old who's favorite toy was taken away, but as a Member of Congress, she should be held to a higher standard and her actions and words showed a real lack of character.
