Boyda Gets Dem Leadership Backing

U.S. House Democrat Majority Leader was in Kansas trying to prop up Nancy Boyda. Boyda, who once claimed "independence" from the Democrat leadership must feel she's in enough election trouble 14 months out to call in the majority leader.

It's a risky strategy. First, she's going back on her word not to accept help from national Democrat leaders. Next, the Democrat Congressional majority has about a 20% approval rating. Not only are the flip-flopping and bad ratings a problem, but Hoyer has an ethics problem. Hoyer's new Chief of Staff is a former lobbyist who once gave a below market loan to a Democrat Congressman, allegedly in exchange for support of a piece of legislation.

The Kansas press continues to give her a pass on her regular inconsistencies . . . Boyda has raised thousands of PAC dollars from Democrat leadership PACs as well as thousands in contributions from DC lobbyists, yet she's been allowed to claim "independence" from DC without public challenge from the lemmings in the Kansas media. Hoyer comes to town for her and apparently not one reporter raised a question about why she would bring him to Kansas if she was so "independent."

Let's face it, Boyda looks to get a free pass from the media . . . much like "do-nothing Dennis" in the 3rd CD.

did my post from earlier prompt this? i hope so :-).

anyway, this is just partisan silliness. Inviting a big name to town to help drum up excitement in LOCAL DONORS doesn't reflect she's lost her independence...it's just like bringing William Shatner to a Star Trek convention- it makes all the locals just go CRAZY!

Anyway, raising money from Topekans while the Majority leader is in the room doesn't make her not "independent." Silly logic.

oh, and why all the hate for the media in kansas? is it just a general republican "the media is scary" sort of thing or is it because the media pummeled Jim in 2006?

not the media's fault- Jeff Black's fault.

you only call on the leader if your party when you're in trouble?

does that mean pat roberts is going to lose? he's already had bush in wichita

What about all the money she took from Dem leadership and lobbyists after saying she wouldn't ask for their help? Oh, you're going to ignore that part of the post.

What about Hoyer's CoS who basically bribed a member of Congress . . .

Has the press honestly asked her any tough questions in light of everything she's done, including her little temper tantrum . . . NO . . . it's not media hate but factual observation.

The Cap Journal is all about struggling to keep Boyda propped up. Next puff piece about her (probably by tomorrow), read it strictly for the humor. Kansas has the laziest reporters in the world.

You'll never ever believe this, of course, but i'd doubt nancy asked for the leadership PAC money she received...just as I don't think Tom Delay asked jim ryun for the money he sent to him- members of congress protect each other.

how nancy gets her money isn't a story- no one but people who hate her care, so the papers/ tv news stations aren't going to report it. if she does something illegal or one of her donors goes the way of Mr. Hsu, then it's a story- til then, all the "lazy reports" have better stories- stories, at least, their readership cares about.

No, it's media hate coming from people upset about the Ryun Townhouse and the Kline Memo stories- for as much as you hate nancy, the reality is she still hasn't done anything as unethical as either of those men.

also- i won't defend Hoyer- he's a celeb in the party. But, at least now the R's get a sense of how the D's felt about President Bush coming to town- they think he's as awful as i'm sure you all do hoyer

The Ryun Townhouse scandal just won't go away. There's still dirt to come out. Ryun shouldn't be running for office with this hanging over his head. It's going to be a real embarassment to his family. Ryun is going to finish his career as a crook.

Would someone like to purchase the Ryun townhouse? First of all, there was no scandal as some would have you believe. Ask Boyda herself. She concluded there was nothing there. Secondly, property isn't selling in the DC area. Make an offer.

Anonymous said...

The house won't sell because there's a registered sex offender living next door (GOP Congressman Foley).

Does anyone honestly believe Jeff Black was running the Ryun campaign?

Sure his name was in the paper, but who do you really think was pulling the strings?

If you know that little about politics and campaigns you have no business posting.

no, i don't think jeff black was running the campaign...that would have been a stupid thing to do..but what he was was the public face of the campaign, the one who made the horrible errors that may have cost jim the election.

i'm still not convinced he isn't running this blog

What media errors did Black make? The only thing I remember was him trying to recover from Jim's lie about Foley living across the street. Black stumbled through it but what was he supposed to say? "Sorry, Jim didn't know that you already knew he had a fund raiser with Foley. Otherwise he would have told the truth."

Sorry to disappoint, I'm not writing this blog. Though I do appreciate at least someone sticking up for me. If I had to do it over I would've had Mark handle the Foley interview since I was at the hospital for the birth of my son when the (blank) hit the fan. I will say this though, before Jim said what he did we were up 15. And no, it wasn't a joint fund raiser.

oh, huzzah- jim up by 15? who in the world where you asking, his family?

Blaming one person for losing an entire campaign is probably a bit of a stretch. I have no idea if Jeff Black was a good CM or not, but usually political campaigns are controlled more by consultants and candidates than by campaign staff. I don't know if Ryun's operation is different, but that's how campaigns are run.

If people can give a good recap on why Boyda won/Ryun lost, then I think that is a good discussion worth having. But saying "Ryun's CM stinks so that's why he lost" a zillion times gets a little boring quickly.

"how nancy gets her money isn't a story- no one but people who hate her care, so the papers/ tv news stations aren't going to report it"

Typical media BS response. People don't care about the 'news' in the puff pieces either, but there's no shortage of those.

If they hadn't made her 'independence' a story in the first place that argument holds water, but they did--so don't act like there's no reason to look at it.

And don't lump in TV media in there to thin the blame...they're far less calculating/obvious than CJ/LJW. In fact, the papers are anything but lazy--they're dishonest and biased. I'd prefer lazy any day.

the capitol journal ENDORSED JIM RYUN!!! they have no use for Boyda

More dirt to come on the Ryun townhouse? Really?! Can't wait to hear it. I am sure it'll be good, loaded with lots of details.

Jeff Black wasn't a great campaign manager, but he didn't cost Jim Ryun the election.

Jim Ryun cost Jim Ryun the election. I hope he realizes that. And not because of the townhouse or Foley . . . but because he hadn't built up enough goodwill in the district during his 10 years to overcome those stories.

Anonymous said...

There was nothing illegal about the townhouse purchase, it just sounds bad after the fact because of guilt by association to Abramoff. I guarantee if there were criminal issues involved, we'd have heard about it via an FBI raid by now.

And I'm sorry, but the Foley fundraiser was 5 separate fundraisers held on the same night that were advertised on a joint invitation, not a joint fundraiser.

Just because the Cap Journal reporter was either too stupid to understand that or too bent on writing a "gotcha" story to care, is something you'd have to ask him.

I totally agree with the poster that acknowledged that Jim Ryun himself cost himself the election. He was an absentee representative the last 2 years. He had a good solid staff but his absence masked the good work of his office and his own accomplishments.

boyda's office is doing a bang up job, too....it's her votes that aren't so hot
