In the LJ World, Republican candidates were asked about the new SCHIP bill.
Nick Jordan and Jim Ryun - AGAINST, raises taxes and expands coverage well beyond the families it was originally supposed to help.
Jenkins - hasn't looked at the issue, but would generally like to see compromise.
Dedicated to the proposition that Nancy Boyda is a one termer.

hey, thanks, good reasons to vote against all of the R's- Ryun and Jordan are nasty enough pieces of work to actually limit coverage of children and oppose a bill with broad bipartisan support.
And jenkins is too stupid to even understand the issues in front of her.
wonderful post!
Great plan...
Make the poor pay the tax for their healthcare....
Plus Congress (Democrats) want to lower the amount of nicotine in cigarettes, to make the poor have to buy more packs and therefore pay more taxes.
This is an atrocious bill, so I'm very heartened to see that Jordan isn't afraid to say so. Nice to know a thinking adult is in the race for the 3rd.
The concept of SCHIP is admirable, but the implementation of the bill is horrendous.
talking about a "tax increase" like it effects everyone who pays taxes is misleading- it increases tobacco taxes, which is an excellent way to pay for it.
Jenkins probably hasn't read the bill and I would guess none of the others have either. They are just taking their clues from what is written about the bills and what Bush and Pelosi say about the bill. Dems put the bill up just to make Republicans look bad, they knew they wouldn't get the votes to over ride. This is all about partisan politics and the 08 election and trying to score points against the other party. I thought Dems campaigned on putting a stop to this. We need to elect folks that can figure out how real compromise. It appears Jenkins is the only one willing to do that.
actually the handling of SCHIP is the only thing I think the dems have done right so far. They knew they couldn't override the veto without waiting and trying to scrape up 15 more votes, also waiting until a new Dem is sworn in from Massachusetts' fifth to vote for SCHIP. I think that it is very possible that this will pass.
I think Ryun has a better grasp on it as he actually faced it a few times while in Congress. Jenkins is showing some inexperience. Find something to say other than a version of "I have no clue."
Disagree, Jenkins dealt with this from the State's side. She expanded the program to cover the children of State employees that were excluded in the bill.
jenkins is just trying to not piss anyone off...the best way to win the primary...make sure NO ONE knows where you stand
