Breakin All the Rules

A couple weeks ago, Nancy Boyda was all the rage after the Democrat leadership gave her a bill to pass on the House floor to prohibit former members of Congress from receiving their pension if convicted of certain crimes. An effort to clean up Washington was Boyda's theme.

It seems Boyda missed, slept through or ignored her own ethics training class at freshman orientation though.

An anonymous source forwarded to us an invitation to Nancy Boyda's district office open houses last weekend. The problem with the invitation is that it came from Nancy Boyda's campaign (clearly marked as "paid for by Nancy Boyda for Congress"). If Nancy had even taken the time to browse just the highlights of the ethics rules as found on the website, she would have read that "campaign funds and resources cannot be used for official House purposes."

So, what will Nancy Boyda attribute this slip up to, first week jitters like the disastrous Charlie Gibson interview? Or, is it a pattern and indicator of things to come?

Stay tuned . . .

I, for one, am not surprised.

you can spend campaign time and resources inviting people to attend things...it was a party, after all. she didn't spend any campaign money on an "official" event

This is a black and white issue, you cannot use campaign money to invite people to an official event. An open house talking about constituent services is an official event.

Lets see if I understand the issue here. Campaign money, not tax payer dollars, were used to announce an event which is intended to notify the taxpayers (constituents) about resources and to provide face time with a Representative. I agree that this is something that our former Reprepresentative would not have done, but I still don't understand how this could warrant criticism. And just how much money are we talking here?????

Too bad your former boss, Jim Ryan, rarely had face to face meetings with voters. He thought people had to PAY to lobby to him! LOL

Again, it's RYUN, you illiterate, jobless, leftwing wacko. Two, Boy-duh, I mean, Boyda, took a lot of PAC lobbyist dollars the last two cycles. You do know how to check www.fec.gov, right? That way maybe you actually work with facts instead of conjectures.

You understand the issue, Boyda took campaign money and used it for official purposes. It's a clear no-no. It's found in the highlights of the ethics rules. You don't even have to go digging for it. It's not some obscure addendum to the rules found in teh footnotes. It's in the highlights. That means they surely covered it in the three days of orientation. So, she either wasn't listening or ignored it. This from someone who is making such a big deal about cleaning up Washington. It just doesn't speak well of her.

Here's another howler from the Classless One: her Office and Staff Directory, on official US House stationery no less, includes all her campaign contact information!
I don't think it would even occcur to a moderatly mentally challenged public official to try this!

Speaking of Boyda's open house...
In Pittsburg there was quite a ruckus when some of her closest supporters stormed out of the open house. Apparently, her chief of staff made some disparaging remarks about Catholics, which was overheard by some of her supporters who are Catholic. They were extremely offended....
